More Info

Nina is a Danish voice hearer, mental health advocate and part time hearing voices consultant. After leaving the psychiatric system, where she never received the help she needed, Nina found her own way to deal with her trauma, later on realising, that her way of working, greatly resembled the Maastricht approach for voice hearing.

In 2017 she started teaching health care professionals how to work with voices, trained as a facilitator for voice hearers in 2022, and in 2023 she started a Hearing Voices group in Esbjerg, Denmark.

Today Nina uses her own experiences, the Maastricht approach and her knowledge on dissociation and other trauma reactions, to help voice hearers, and give health care professional a deeper understanding on how life experiences can cause voice hearing and other reactions to trauma. Nina writes the blog: ‘En stemmehørers beretninger – The perspectives of a voice hearer’ on Facebook. Nina will be co-delivering a workshop on the hearing voices approach with Trevor Eyles, who she regularly trains with in Denmark and internationally.

Nina says:

“To this day, I still remember how it felt, when I was introduced to a different way of understanding voices, than the traditional psychiatric way.

I remember the confusion, the anger and hurt, when I realised that the help I received, would never be enough, because it focused solely on illness, instead of life experiences”.
