Liz Knight is Queen of the hedgerows, with a passion for the food heritage of rural Britain. She shifted gears 15 years ago when she left a high flying career in business and IT to work with older people in Monmouthshire. It was there she discovered the power of pre-World War Food culture when she engaged older people, including those with dementia, in an inter-generational project with local school children.
Liz discovered the little known treasures that lie in our back gardens and countryside, that sustained our healthiest generation during times of rationing and scarcity. Her passion for food, wellbeing and community was forged during those years, and led to her setting up Forage Fine Foods – a unique range of store cupboard and wild food ingredients that she now sells far and wide.
“I love opening people’s eyes to the wealth of food and incredible flavour that is in their back gardens. Making people smile when they eat things like pine tips, honeysuckle or ground elder for the first time!”
Liz will be cooking our Wild & Well Evening feast on Thursday night, and talking about which foods are good for our mind.
Liz says:
“Nourishing your body is vital for nourishing your mind, and I’m so delighted to be cooking up a Wild & Well feast for Compassionate Mental Health. No job is more important than any other, but this might just be one of the most important jobs I’ve done in a long time.”
