Richard Manners
Retired consultant arts psychotherapist with a passion for community Arts and Health for all. Richard has 45 years experience working in the NHS and private specialist hospitals, developing and managing a broad spectrum of therapeutic services in various clinical settings. He has recently retired from his role as Consultant Arts Psychotherapist at Elysium Healthcare.

Richard is an art psychotherapist with over 43 years experience, both in the NHS and the private and independent sector. He has recently retired from his last role as a Consultant Art Psychotherapist with Elysium Healthcare (Formerly Priory Healthcare). Richard has spent his whole career dedicated to working with people with learning disabilities. He was part of the All Wales Strategy a pioneering and innovative strategy that saw closure of large institutional hospitals such as Ely and Llanfrechfa Grange Hospitals in Wales. Richard is passionate about the rights of people with a learning disability, and supporting people to have a voice and to be heard. In his therapy practice, Richard puts the person at the centre at all times. Advocacy and empowerment are real drivers in Richard’s work with clients, and the organisations he works with.
Richard has become experienced in the field of forensic learning disability services particularly working with individuals with multiple complex diagnosis including autistic spectrum disorders. In parallel he is equally passionate about arts in health and community arts particularly supporting individuals and organisations to welcome and support people who may ave special needs and may need extra support. I have been able to develop and manage a broad spectrum of therapeutic services in various clinical settings.
Alongside his work in specialist mental health services, Richard has been active in grassroots community arts building for many years, and is Chair of the Llanover Hall Charity group in Cardiff, where he is passionate about preserving an inclusive and welcoming space in the City and Arts and Health for all.
