Andrea says?:
Andrea Prevett is a highly experienced clinical psychologist, trained in a range of psychological therapies including CBT, EMDR, and Compassion-Focused Therapy. She began her career in the NHS in 2003, before transitioning to private practice in 2015, where she now supports adults facing mental health challenges.
Andrea’s professional approach is deeply enriched by her personal exploration of Buddhism, Western mindfulness, and yoga, which influence both her clinical work and daily life.
Her journey with Compassionate Mental Health began after the devastating loss of her son Dai, who tragically ended his own life following a struggle with mental illness.
This loss has profoundly shaped Andrea’s commitment to mental health, as she continues to support other family members affected by mental health conditions and neurodiversity.
Reflecting on her first Compassionate Mental Health Gathering, Andrea shares:
“The first time I ‘found’ and attended a Compassionate Mental Health Gathering was after the sudden loss of my son Dai. The gathering was profoundly moving, powerful and challenging. I was overwhelmed at times by my emotions and loss but also by the sense of profound love, care and connection that I felt, and was apparent in the words and actions of those present. Despite my sense of overwhelm, the space created by all those in attendance and mindfully curated by Brigid felt safe and supportive; I felt held, understood and validated. It was clear that others also experienced something similar, something that was lacking in their previous experiences of either working within or seeking help from mental health services. This felt important and it brought me back to the gatherings whenever possible”.
Today, Andrea remains a dedicated participant and serves as part of the wellbeing team, offering her support and expertise to others.
