Getting to fforest

Fforest Farm, Cilgerran, Pembrokeshire, SA43 2TB

Driving from the M4 via South Wales

Take the M4 to the end then continue on the A48 to Carmarthen. At Carmarthen continue West, taking the A40 for approximately 20 miles and passing through St Clears, Whitland and Llanddewi Velfrey. At the Penblewin roundabout (junction with the A478, near Narberth) take the third exit (right) towards Cardigan. Continue along the A478 for approximately 18 miles. Shortly after passing through Bridell you will arrive at Pen-Y-Bryn. Take the right turn signposted towards Cilgerran and follow the brown signs for the Wildlife Reserve and Canoe Trips. Keep following the brown signs, taking the first left after entering Cilgerran village. fforest is on the right half a mile along the Wildlife Reserve access road. Plan your route here>>

Driving from the North via Aberystwyth

Take the A487 South from Aberystwyth to Cardigan (approximately 38 miles). At the Cardigan roundabout take the second exit (straight over) across the new bridge. At the next roundabout take the first exit and continue for approximately 1½ miles until you arrive at Pen-Y-Bryn. Take the left turn signposted towards Cilgerran and follow the brown signs for the Wildlife Reserve and Canoe Trips. Keep following the brown signs, taking the first left after entering Cilgerran village. fforest is on the right half a mile along the Wildlife Reserve access road. Plan your route here>>

Driving from the South via Fishguard

Take the A487 North-east from Fishguard to Cardigan (approximately 20 miles). As you approach Cardigan at the roundabout take the third exit (right) towards Tenby and continue for approximately 1½ miles until you arrive at Pen-Y-Bryn. Take the left turn signposted towards Cilgerran and follow the brown signs for the Wildlife Reserve and Canoe Trips. Keep following the brown signs, taking the first left after entering Cilgerran village. fforest is on the right half a mile along the Wildlife Reserve access road. Plan your route here>>

Public Transport

The nearest mainline train stations are Carmarthen, an hour’s drive to the south and Aberystwyth, an hour’s drive to the north. By Train. If you are approaching from London or the South you should get the Carmarthen train. If you are approaching from Birmingham or the North you should get the Aberystwyth train. Please refer to the website www.nationalrail.co.uk for further information.

There are buses to Cardigan, the nearest town to fforest, from both Carmarthen (see timetable) and Aberystwyth (see timetable) please check current timetables. Buses run during the daytime Monday to Saturday. There are also a number of taxi firms based in Cardigan town.

If you are coming via train to Carmarthen you can catch the no. 460 bus approx every hour from 7:15am, Monday – Saturday (not all buses leave from the train station, but it’s a short walk to the bus station). This will take you to Finch Square, Cardigan. On your return, buses start to leave Finch Square from 6:45am, Monday to Saturday. Please check current timetables.

Coming from the Aberystwyth direction you can catch the X50 / T5 bus from Aberystwyth bus station (right next to the train station) approx every hour from 6:40am, Monday – Saturday. This will get you in to Finch Square, Cardigan. On your return, buses start to leave Finch Square from 5:45am, Monday to Saturday. Please check current timetables.

Getting to Cilgerran from Cardigan

The 430 (see timetable) leaves Finch Square at 9:12 12:12 15:12 16:15 17:42. It will get you to Cilgerran in 9 minutes. Ask them to drop you at the turning for the Wildlife Centre, just after the bridge. From there you will have to walk for about 1/2 a mile before you see signs for fforest.

By Cycle

The main roads coming in t oCardigan are the A487 from Aberystwyth and the A484 from Carmarthen. From Cardigan you take the A478 to Pen-Y-Bryn, turning left for Cilgerran and then left again following signs for the Welsh Wildlife Centre. About 1⁄2 a mile down the road you will see a sign for fforest, turn right here and follow signs leading you to the lodge.
